Tips: What is an Insulation Resistance Tester?
Insulation Resistance tester, also known as Megohmmeter or Megger, is widely used to measure the insulation resistance of electrical devices such as generators, motors, power transformers, cables, household appliances and so on. The insulation performance of the electrical equipment is one of the important indicators to evaluate the insulation quality, it is reflected through insulation resistance. The megger insulation tester plays this role to indicate changes in electrical insulation resistance over months or years. Large changes in insulation resistance may indicate a potential failure. Therefore, it is necessary to calibrate the Megohmmeter periodically to ensure that the meter itself does not change over time.
Generally, the insulation resistance to be tested refers to the insulation resistance between the live part and the exposed non-live metal part (shell). According to different products, apply a high-voltage direct current, such as 100V, 250V, 500V, 1000V, etc., and specify a minimum insulation resistance value. Some standards express that the insulation resistance is not less than 1 m Ω for each kV voltage, etc.
