Insulation Resistance Test Wiring Diagram
Tips: What is insulation resistance?
Insulation resistance is the DC resistance of the insulation under the specified conditions, that is, the DC voltage is applied to the dielectric, after a certain period of polarization, the resistance corresponding to the leakage current flowing through the dielectric is called insulation resistance. It is the most basic insulation index of electrical equipment and electrical circuit.
Measurement of insulation resistance
The insulation resistance tester, also called Megohmeter or Megger, is used to measure the insulation resistance of electrical equipment and electrical circuit.
- Connect the lines according to the Megohmmeter test method. The connection of the measuring wires to the device is more suitable for magnetic connector or clamp, and the connection point must be free of rust.
- It is appropriate to use the measuring instrument for 500V / 500 MΩ Megger (where the error is not greater than 10%). Turn the handle of the insulation tester to reach the specified speed for 10 seconds. The stable indicated resistance value of the megohmmeter is the insulation resistance value of the insulation joint (flange), which is required to be greater than 10 megohm.
Factors affecting insulation resistance
- Ambient temperature and humidity, the insulation resistance value of general materials decreases with the increase of ambient temperature and humidity.
- Test time
- Cable itself. When the cable is heated and damp, insulation material will be aging. The insulation resistance is reduced.
