Tips: Digital Gas Flow Detector Installation

The gas flow meter is preferably installed horizontally. Flow direction should be the same as the direction of the arrow mark on the meter body. If there may be particles or debris in the fluid, a filter is strongly recommended to be installed upstream of the meter.

Please follow the below steps to complete the installation:

    1. Check if the meter is complete, no visual damage first.

    2. Before installation, make sure that there is no debris or particles in the pipe.

    3. During installation, it is recommended to first install the inlet of the flow meter and then the outlet. To ensure the accuracy of measurement, the straight pipe length should be remained enough at the installation site of flow meter, upstream no less than 10 times DN and downstream no less than 5 times DN.

    4. Make sure all the wire connections of the flow meter is correct including the wires for LCD, input/output and communication.

    5. Turn on the power supply, and ensure that the LCD works properly.

    6. Slowly turn on the valve of the pipeline, and then the flow meter starts to measure the gas flow in the pipeline.

Question for a gas flow meter
My name is Colin and I work for Black & McDonald Limited. We are assisting one of our clients with submetering so that they can measure the amount of each input they put into their production process. There are 4 gases that we need to submeter:

    Compressed air (1.5” iron)
    Novex (0.5” copper)
    Argon (1” copper)
    SF6 (0.5"" copper)
    Thanks

The ATO-FLOW-MF5700 flow meter is not suitable for your application.
I need technical support for new gas application
I have a flowmeter I just purchased, MF5708 and I need assistance with calibrating it for a different gas use aside air. According to the manual, I need technical support to change the GCF for new gas application.

What gas are you trying to measure now? If it is to measure nitrogen and oxygen, GCF does not need to be modified and can be used directly.
What does flow meter standard condition refer to?
By standard conditions, are you referring to 20C at 101.325kPa or something else?
I am trying to better understand the difference between a measurement of flow rate under working pressure and a measurement of flow rate under standard conditions.
I was under the impression that each device measures flow rate and there shouldn’t be a difference.

    1. Yes, the standard condition refers to the flow rate at 20°C under 101.325kPa, and the working condition refers to the flow rate under the actual working state. Generally, the pipeline has a certain pressure.
    2. After the measuring pipeline passes through our flowmeter, it becomes the working condition of the standard condition, which is the main difference from the rotary flowmeter.
If you want to compare the measurement results of different flow meters, you should refer to the same type of flow meter.

Hope my explanation is able to assist you.
Please feel free to let us know if you have any further questions.
Why am I seeing such different numbers?
Ah, I see, no worries. I can just do the conversion myself. I am seeing a bigger problem with the Flow meters we bought, the values they are producing seem to be off by a factor of  2.

I am testing compressed air flow rates through some of our assemblies and initially recorded the flow rates using Dwyer Rotameters. The idea to use a Digital Flow Meter instead of the Rotameters came up so we purchased your Meter with the Calibration Certificate.

I wanted to verify that similar measurements were recorded between the rotameter and Digital Flow Meter, so I put them in line with one another and ran compressed air through them.

Why am I seeing such different numbers?

The rotameter measures the flow rate under the working pressure. Under the working pressure, the gas is compressed, and the measured flow rate is relatively small.
Our gas flowmeter measures gas under standard conditions, and the flow rate is relatively high. The principle of measurement is different, so the reading will be a little different, which is normal.
I have a question about gas mass flow meter
I have a question about your Gas Mass Flow Meter Model MF5700. In your technical datasheet, there is an indication to "Slowly open/close valves to prevent abrupt pulse flow impact".
What are the consequences of transgressing this guideline?
Is that likely to damage the sensor or will just cause the response time to be lower than your spec?
I am looking for a sensor that will measure airflow in a line used by a robotic gripper. The gripper should be using around 90 LPM, I will not have a practical way to supply de air "slowly" as the gripper uses electro valves that are opening in a matter of milliseconds.
    From: momo | Date: 21/07/2023

    ATO Responded
If the valve is opened instantaneously, it will cause excessive airflow and pressure in the pipeline, which may cause damage to the sensor chip and damage the sensor.
So we suggest that you try not to use electric valves to control pipeline opening/closing.
How to determine the accuracy of flow meter?
For this flowmeter, I would like to know how to determine the accuracy
    https://www.ato.com/digital-gas-flow-meter?affiliate=shopping
When I click on the user manual on the webpage, on page 30 of the user manual I see the equation highlighted below.
If I purchase the 0-20 L/min flowmeter, how do I use this equation to figure out the accuracy?
    If I plug in the full-scale flow rate of 20L/min, I get plus or minus 2.0 0.5*20 = 12%.
    Is that correct?

    ATO Responded
    To determine the accuracy:
For 0-20 L/min flowmeter, if the measured flow is currently 10L/MIN, the accuracy is 2+0.5(20/10)%=3%.
Is there any reason we couldn't use gas flow meter to calibrate for air?
Is there any reason we couldn't use gas flow meter to calibrate for air and then use the 1.39 conversion factor between air and natural gas? What are the wetted materials on that one?
    From: Sapelloly | Date: 27/06/2023
Was this review helpful? Yes No (0/0)
    ATO Responded
    1. Yes, if you don't consider explosion-proof requirements, you can also use ATO-MF5706 calibrated for air, then use the 1.39 conversion factor between air and natural gas.
    2. The gas flow meter is Not explosion-proof, and there may be potential safety hazards. If you encounter safety problems in system applications, you need to bear it yourself.
    Excellent digital gas flow meter
I'm very satisfied with this digital gas flow meter. Both in terms of appearance and performance, it is excellent. LCD can clearly display the data I need. I will recommend to my friends.
