    185KW Soft Starters Details

Tips: Soft starter starting fault and its handling method part 1

    1. In the start-up process, the soft starter has the occasional jump air switch phenomenon. The causes for the malfunction are:
Long delay setting value of air switch is too small or air switch selection does not match with the motor. (Air switch parameters are moderately enlarged or the air switch is reselected.)
The starting voltage parameter is set too high or the starting time is too long. (The initial voltage is appropriately adjusted or the starting time is appropriately shortened according to the load condition.)
In the process of starting, because fluctuations in the grid voltage are relatively large, it is easy to cause the error commands issued by the soft starter and an early bypass phenomenon. (It is recommended that users do not start high-power motor at the same time.)
Start at full load. (Minimize the load when starting.)
    2. The soft starter reports fault when starting, the soft starter does not work, the motor does not respond. The causes of the failure may be:
Default phase of motor. (Check motor and peripheral circuit.)
Short circuit of SCR of main elements in soft starter. (Check whether the motor and the grid voltage are abnormal Connect with the manufacturers to replace the SCR.)
Filter board breaks down short circuit. (Replace the filter board.)
    3. In the starting process, the current is instable and the current is too large. The reasons may be:
Ammeter indication is not accurate or does not match the transformer. (Replace the new ammeter.)
Grid voltage has instability, fluctuations are relatively large, causing the malfunction of the soft starter. (Connect with the manufacturers to replace the control panel.)
Soft starter parameter setting is unreasonable. (Retune the parameters.)
    4. The soft starter has repeated start. The causes for the malfunction are:
During the starting process, the external protective elements move, the contactor cannot be closed, resulting in repeated starting of the soft starter. (Check peripheral components and lines.)

Soft Starter Works with a Bypass Contactor

Soft starter works with a bypass contactor saving energy by eliminating thyristor losses during the run. The bypass contactor shunts the current flowing through the soft starter switch circuit to reduce heat accumulation in the soft starter power electronics during motor operation. This provides maximum efficiency and prolongs the life of soft-start switching components because they only work during the start and stop cycles of the motor.

    I need help
My current contactor is close to 400A, can I continue to use it?

For this soft starter Model: GS2-185, we recommend bypassing a contactor with a capacity of 400A. If your existing contactor is close to 400A and it has been working properly on your motor before, you can continue to use it.
Can the 250hp soft starter perform the task?
    I have a 380 VAC 310 Amp 60 HZ motor I need to run of a generator.
I need to soft start the motor in order not to trip the generator.
The motor is on a crusher.
I am on a tight budget but can you please advise if your 250hp soft starter be able to perform the task?

    ATO Responded
Yes, our 250hp, model: GS-185 soft starter will be able to perform this task.
