Tips: What is a moulded case circuit breaker?

The moulded case circuit breaker is also named as the equipment-type circuit breaker. The moulded case refers that the plastic insulator is used as the enclosure of the equipment. All components are sealed in the plastic enclosure, so as to isolate the conductors and the grounding metal parts. The moulded case circuit breaker can cut off the current automatically when the current exceeds the tripping setting. Because the structure is very compact, the moulded case circuit breaker is basically unable to be repaired.
The moulded case circuit breaker equips the contact, arc extinguish chamber, release and operating mechanism and so on in one plastic enclosure. Normally, maintenance is not considered. It is suitable to be used as the protective switch of the branch. The overcurrent release has thermomagnetic type and electronic type. Usually, the thermomagnetic moulded case circuit breaker is the non-selected circuit breaker, which only has the overload long time delay protection and short-circuit instant protection. However, the electronic moulded case circuit breaker has four protective functions, which are respectively: Overload long time delay, short-circuit short delay, short-circuit instant and grounding fault. Some new promoted electronic moulded case circuit breakers still have the function of regional selective interlock. Most of the moulded case circuit breakers are in manual operation while some are also equipped with the motor operation mechanisms.
