What is a Linear DC Power Supply?
The linear dc power supply ensures that the output current remains constant and changes in the input do not affect the output, converting unregulated AC (alternating current) to constant DC (direct current). Bench power supplies can be used to power individual circuits before they are complete. Therefore, by providing reliable power supply at different voltages, linear DC power supplies are a practical tool for testing and experimentation. The linear dc power supply makes your life simpler by enabling you to test your circuit designs and ideas faster and easier because you don't need a specific power supply for every item you want or have to test. A regulated power supply ensures that the output power is balanced even when the input load changes.
Working principle of linear dc power supply
The working process of the main circuit of the linear DC power supply is that the input power supply is initially AC stabilized by the pre-stabilizing circuit, and then converted into a DC power supply through the isolation and rectification of the main working transformer, and then under the intelligent control of the control circuit and the single-chip microprocessor controller. The linear adjustment element is finely adjusted to output a high-precision DC voltage source. The linear DC power supply products can be widely used in scientific research, colleges and universities, laboratories, industrial and mining
enterprises, electrolysis, electroplating, charging equipment, etc.
Components of linear dc power supply
1. Power transformer
Power transformer is a kind of soft magnetic electromagnetic element, whose functions are power transmission, voltage conversion and insulation isolation, and has been widely used in power supply technology and power electronics technology.
2. Rectifier circuit
A rectifying circuit is a circuit that converts alternating current electrical energy into direct current electrical energy. Most rectifier circuits are composed of transformers, rectifier main circuits and filters. It is widely used in DC motor speed regulation, generator excitation regulation, electrolysis, electroplating and other fields. The rectifier circuit usually consists of the main circuit, filter and transformer.
The filter is connected between the main circuit and the load to filter out the AC components in the pulsating DC voltage. The transformer setting depends on the specific situation. The role of the transformer is to achieve the matching between the AC input voltage and the DC output voltage and the electrical isolation between the AC grid and the rectifier circuit.
The function of the rectifier circuit is to convert the alternating current with a lower voltage output by the AC step-down circuit into a unidirectional pulsating direct current, which is the rectification process of the alternating current. The rectifier circuit is mainly composed of rectifier diodes. The voltage after the rectifier circuit is no longer an AC voltage, but a mixed voltage containing a DC voltage and an AC voltage. It is customarily called unidirectional pulsating DC voltage.
3. Filter circuit
The filter circuit is often used to filter the ripple in the rectified output voltage, and is generally composed of reactive components, such as a capacitor C in parallel with the load resistance, or an inductor L in series with the load, and various complexes composed of capacitors and inductors.
4. Regulator circuit
A voltage regulator circuit refers to a circuit that can keep the output voltage constant when the input voltage, load, ambient temperature, circuit parameters, etc. change. This circuit can provide stable DC power and is widely used in various electronic equipment.
ATO 5A Adjustable linear dc power supply
This is ATO 60V 5A linear DC power supply.
It has two specifications of 110V and 220V. Turn on the power switch.
First adjust the current knob to turn the red LED off. When the green LED lights up, the voltage can be adjusted.
The left is the rough adjustment, and the right is the detailed adjustment, the output voltage measured with a multimeter is consistent with the output display voltage, adjust the multimeter to the current position.
Adjust the current output to 0 before measurement, the measured value of the multimeter is consistent with the output.
This is a 24V relay, this relay needs to consume 0.04A of current. ATO has a variety of 12V, 24V, 30V, 5A, 10A~50A linear DC power supply. There are two input voltages of 110V/60Hz and 220V/50Hz, which can be widely used in various countries. To learn more about linear DC power supply, watch the video below.
