Tips: How to select a liquid level sensor?
First of all, we have to clarify the difference between level switch and level sensor.
The level switch is a controller that opens inlet valve or outlet valve according to the signal output of the liquid level sensing element to keep the water level constant. The liquid level switch must first determine the control height of the liquid level, and output the switch signal according to this height. The level sensor converts the height of the liquid level into an electrical signal for output. Users can process electrical signals such as connecting to plc, data collector or professional display meter to output the height of the liquid level. If want to measure when the liquid reaches a certain height, use a level switch. To accurately measure the real-time height of the liquid level, use a level sensor. However, the two can sometimes be used interchangeably.
When choosing a liquid level sensor, first of all, it is necessary to clarify the type of the liquid to be measured, and to understand whether the chemical properties of the liquid to be measured are toxic, corrosive, or polluted. If the medium of the liquid to be measured will stick to the level sensor or the liquid viscosity is too high, opaque, etc., it is recommended to use non-contact level sensors. If the medium is conventional acid-base solution, water, oil, etc., it can be measured by contact type level sensor.
With the development of society and the advancement of science and technology, many level sensors with backward measurement methods have been eliminated. Only level sensors that use the latest measurement technology, measurement speed and measurement accuracy that meet certain high requirements can survive in the Internet of Things era. In terms of non-contact liquid level measurement, ultrasonic level sensors are generally recommended. In terms of contact measurement, it is recommended to use a submerged liquid level sensor or a photoelectric liquid level sensor.
