Existing reviews of Tension and Compression Load Cell, 1 kg - 500 kg
Is there any reason I wouldn't be able to use a standard HX711 converter to amplify the load cell to be readable with a raspberry pi? I don't see any reason this wouldn't work, but only see instructions for using ATO amplifiers with traditional PLCs. Thanks

Our load cell ATO-LCC-DYMH-103 can match our amplifier to output analog signals and then connect to PLC. But we are Not sure whether the standard HX711 converter is compatible with our load cell. You need to understand what type of signal this raspberry pi supports to read, or you should consult the supplier of raspberry pi.
Problems when using the tension and compression load cell
We purchased 4 x load cells. For out test configuration, we plan to read and log force values from each load cell individually throughout the test. Is this achievable using the junction box and transmitter from ATO?
Or would we need to connect all 4 pcs load cell to a DAQ like the MCC USB-200 series? I worry about not having zero and span calibration using something like the MCC. Would we then need to have a transmitter between each load cell and the DAQ, to calibrate span and zero?

If you want to read and record the force value of each load cell separately during the test, you will need to install a transmitter between each load cell and the DAQ.
If you want to read the force values of 4 load cells together during the test, you only need to use a junction box, a transmitter and DAQ to achieve it. Regarding DAQ software, you can refer to this model SKU: ATO-DPM-DY800, which can configure DAQ software.

The total length of the sensor body is 37mm (including the screws at both ends), and the total length of the eye nut is 36.6mm. Therefore, after installing the eye nuts at both ends, the total length of the sensor will Not exceed 109mm (37+36+36). This is because the eye nuts need to be fixed into the sensor screw.
We have a few questions about this load cell
We're looking to source a load cell to use in an impact test of up to 3-4 kN. The one we think may be a good fit for this application is the ATO-LC-TC01. The load cell will be sandwiched between two plates, one will be receiving the impact and the other one will be fixed.
We have a few questions about this load cell:
- Is this cell appropriate for our application?
- Do we need additional electronic components to output the readings?
- What are the units of the output? Can this be modified?
- Does the orientation of the load cell affect the readings?
I hope we can source some load cells as soon as possible to start testing.
Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions regarding the application.

Unfortunately, our load cell is not suitable for impact tests.
The sensor measurement reading will be inaccurate and unstable.
Solve the load cell problem
We have checked one of the load cell from the faulty ones and found that it is showing 350 Ohm resistance at the input side instead of 400 Ohm ( which is /- 10 Ohm) and 350 Ohm at the output side.
Can you confirm, if the resistance is showing OK, that means the load cell should work well. However, after providing the excitation voltage, it did not able to show the output.
Product supplied shall meet the specifications as per catalogue provided. You need to resolve the issue on priority or provide replacement immediately. Our machine delivery stuck due to this issue.

1. It is normal in showing 350 Ohm resistance at the input side.
2. Perhaps we can help to solve the your problems before the return. Please check the quality of the sensor again, the method of judging the quality of the load cell:
1) Find the connection terminal of the sensor in the weighing instrument (or amplifier). When the connection circuit of the measuring sensor is normal, the red and black wires (EX+, EX-) of the sensor are the excitation voltage, generally 5v power supply voltage.
2) Remove the green and white line (SIG+, SIG-) signal line when the sensor is unloaded, set the multi-meter voltage mv gear, and then directly measure the mv voltage of the green and white line. If the measurement result does not exceed 0.3mv, then press the sensor with your hand. If you see obvious mv voltage changes, it means that the sensor is good. If the mv voltage of the green and white line exceeds 0.3mv, there is a problem.
Hope my explanation is able to assist you. Look forward to your reply.
Accuracy results of tension load cell
We are not getting specified "Accuracy" results.
For the 5 Kg load cell, 0.3%F.S provides 15gm.
We are not getting readings, even after loading 100gm.
Please check and revert.

Change the decimal point of the sensor to 0, and it will show 5kg.
Please refer to the attached DY510 manual.
Some question of tension load cell
Thanks for your email. As per specification we have 15g resolution (0.3% of F.S = 5000gm*0.03 = 15g). This is not accuracy figure as per my understanding.
Refer attached photograph, that shows 1kg weight placed on the load cell at bottom side of the image. Refer the current reading on the multi-meter. It shows 7.2mA. [=(1/5)*16mA 4mA].
Hope this gives clear understanding of the problem we are facing.

Thanks for your feedback.
1. DYMH-103 5kg the accuracy of this sensor is 0.3%, and the minimum accuracy is 15g, but there will be an error of about 10g.
We recommend that you replace the sensor ATO-LCS-DYLY-108, its accuracy is 0.05%.
Please refer to the link: https://www.ato.com/micro-load-cell-s-type-0kg-to-200kg
2. The current reading on the multi-meter in your attached picture shows 7.2mA, which is a normal reading, no problem.
500kg load cell full scale
In documentation of DY510 Weight Transmitter, it states that if it is desired to calibrate such that load cell can measure tension and compression, 0 load point must be set to at 12 mA, so that min/max is at 4mA/20mA. I purchased 500kg load cell, and I was wondering if 500kg means that the full scale of the load cell is 1000 kg [-500 500]. In addition, I was wondering if it were possible to set range to [-250 750]. These loads cell will be used on a vehicle, and while I don't expect to have more than 500kg, that scenario is more likely than -500kg.

No, whether it is compression or tension, the specification of 500kg can only be (-500, +500), exceeding this value may damage the sensor. So its capacity is not 1000kg.. However, the transmitter is different, it only detects the voltage signal, it is very flexible, you can adjust it according to your needs, they are fundamentally not much related.
Some problems about the calibration
I did the whole calibration and I put 2 kg thing during the weight calibration to verify the weight then after the set up. I put 2 kg thing on top of the load cell still show 1.7 kg. I am wondering why.

We think that in your case, the calibration was not performed correctly. When calibrating, you need to complete 2 steps. To calibrate the zero point without load first, you need to adjust the zero point potentiometer to display the signal output to 0. After completion, perform load target point calibration. For example, the weight is 50Kg, which is equivalent to 10% of the full scale of 500Kg, then the output voltage signal should be 10% of 5V, which is 0.5V, so you need to adjust the span potentiometer until the output signal shows 0.5V.
Some question of load cell, 1kg-500kg
Would like to clarify a few things for recent purchase load cell 0-500 capacity.
It seems there are 2 weights needed for calibration,10% rated weight range or more than half the full range?
Secondly is, what is the tolerance of the load cell?
Can it achieve 0.00 for 0-500kg capacity?
What do you mean by F.S in accuracy 0.3%FS?

1. It is also acceptable to calibrate the rated weight range of 10% of the sensor range or more than half the full range.
2. 0.3%F.S means: the accuracy error is 500kg*0.003=1.5kg.

This load sensor has no recovery signal interface, its output is 0-20mV, and you can get an analog signal or RS-485 if you connect its output to the load cell transmitter/amplifier.
Problems about ATO load cell.
I have an ATO-LC-TC01 load cell, which I think is malfunctioning and need support with it. The problem is as follows:
When I measure the bridge impedances with a multimeter, I only get 350 Ohms on the Red/White and Green/Black pairings; all other measurements are Open Loop
The top cover of the unit is loose and can fall off of the threads, exposing the internals of the load cell.
When connected to the ATO-LCTR-DY510 load cell amplifier, the output from the amplifier is -13V, which I believe indicates that the amplifier is not seeing a proper connection to the load cell.
This all occurs whether the load cell is in tension, compression, or no load.
Is there any further troubleshooting I can do with this unit?
Is there a recommended installation procedure for these load cells to ensure they are not damaged by the tightening process on the threads?

If the red/white and green/black pairings are only 350 ohms when the multimeter measures the bridge impedance, and all other measurements are open loop, it means that the sensor is damaged inside. When installing the load cell, do not screw the screw to the end, and the screw should not touch the ring surface of the sensor, otherwise the sensor may be damaged.
Correct information of load cell
While checking the load cell specifications, I noticed some differences between the information in the catalog (pdf file) and the website overview (e.g. Excitation voltage, Accuracy). Which specifications are correct?

The information on the page is correct, the information on the PDF is wrong, sorry for the confusion.
I have the following queries.
1. Can it be customizable to take compressive loads up to 1000 kg? Will the expected delivery date be still 12 days? If not do you have any estimate?
2. Will the diameter of the load cell be 15-20 mm for compressive loads upto 1000 kg? We are looking in that range.
3. Will the load cell be calibrated?
4. Is it reliable for carrying out high frequency dynamic load tests (research experiments)? If not do you have such load cells of up to 1000 kg? The time scale I am talking about is 2-5 milli seconds, thus the data required needs to be 100kHz.

1.Sorry, we can't produce 15-20 mm diameter, our 1000kg load cell is 51mm in diameter.
2. The response frequency of our load cell is 1kHz, which cannot reach the 100kHz you require.
Can you provide some advice for my test?
I do impact testing for football collisions. I have a pendulum with a 15.3 kg mass, on which the load cell is mounted. I impact a head form which has the 6DXPro mounted inside. I record 4 seconds of data from the load cell, 3 accelerometer channels, and 3 gyroscope channels. For each of the 5 tests I performed the linear acceleration and angular velocity profiles are consistent, the load cell readings however changed drastically. They increased with each test from 29 kg to 49 kg to 108 kg to 120 kg then drastically dropped to 10 kg on my last test. Any insight you may be able to provide is greatly appreciated.

The structure of the model DYMH-103 you purchased is not suitable for impact testing. When installed horizontally, the weight of the sensor itself will also have a certain impact on the measurement. Therefore, the output measurement value will be unstable and inaccurate under these factors. For your testing, it is recommended that you use our MH-105. When installing, please install it vertically, and use the vertical direction for impact testing.
I am interested in your load cell. Can you recommend one for me?
I am working at a research station in Norway and we have 12 loads (50 kg and 300 kg) which we want to connect to a computer, so that we can follow the weight over time. Is that possible, and what do you recommend?

We can recommend using our multi-channel junction box to connect the load cell together getting one output, and then connect the junction box output signal to our digital load cell amplifier, to output RS485 signal, and then connect to the computer software through the 485 signal to monitor the weight information.

5kg micro load cells for tension test
I just bought 5 pcs 5kg micro load cells for tension test. The tension load cells have highly sensitive and good repeatability precision. The measured data is really accurate and stable. I am also satisfied with the delivery time. It takes about a week to receive them.
