    Optical Endoscope vs. Electronic Endoscope

    Endoscope, also known as borescope or endoscope camera, is a multidisciplinary universal tool. Its function is to explore the depths of curved pipes, observe the parts that cannot be directly seen, observe the internal space structure and state in a sealed cavity, and realize long distance observation and operation.

    Industrial endoscopes are mainly divided into optical endoscope and electronic endoscope. What are the differences between them? In this article, ATO industrial automation will introduce something about this topic.

    Optical endoscope and electronic endoscope

    Optical Endoscope:

    The optical borescope completely transmits the internal object image through the transmission of light without distortion to the eye of the tester, so the imaging is very fidelity, and it is also the highest definition among these kinds of endoscopes. In order to enter smaller holes, we choose fiber optic endoscope. The definition of fiber optic endoscope depends on the number of fiber bundles.

    Fiber industrial endoscope: tip, bending part, insertion part, operation part, light guide hose, light guide connection part, eyepiece tip into a rigid short section, with direct vision (forward view), side view, squint type tip above: objective lens hole (guide beam), light hole (guide beam), gas and water hole (nozzle), biopsy hole.

    The bending part adopts the method of four steel wire traction, the head has four steel wire connected to the control part, twist the upper and lower hand wheel of the control part, can pull the steel wire in different directions, so that the bending head swings in the corresponding direction. The bending section has guiding beam, guiding beam, all kinds of pipes and traction device, bending pipe, bending rubber.

    The hose part includes the bending part and the insertion part, also known as the snake tube. Equipped with guiding beam, guiding beam, moisture pipe, biopsy pipe (also suction pipe), traction wire, stainless steel hose and metal network, the outermost layer is smooth plastic sleeve. The fiber bundle conducting the image constitutes the core part of the fiber endoscope, which is composed of tens of thousands of extremely fine glass fibers. According to the total reflection principle of optics, all glass fibers must be covered with a film with a low refractive index to ensure that all the light transmitted by the inner core fibers can be fully reflected.

    The transmission of a single fiber can only produce a light spot. In order to see the image, a large number of fibers must be integrated into the bundle. In order to transmit the image to the other end into the same image, each fiber must be arranged in the same position at both ends, which is called the image guiding bundle. When a guide beam is disconnected, the image has an extra black spot. The guiding beam does not need to be arranged in the same position, and the brightness is obviously reduced if many roots are disconnected.

    Electronic Endoscope:

    Electronic borescope transmits image signal by CCD instead of guiding beam, and then transforms into video signal by image processing center. CCD solid camera device is called CCD image sensor, its structure is arranged on the silicon substrate many photosensitive diodes (pixels), the imaging light on it into electrical signals, and then transmitted out to get the image signal. The structure of electronic industrial endoscope is basically the same as that of fiber endoscope, which can be simply understood as replacing the image guide beam with CCD, and many functions are beyond the reach of fiber endoscope.

    The whole set of electronic endoscope consists of a cold light source, an image processing center, a monitor, an electronic gastroenteroscope and a cart. Electronic endoscope image clear, easy to observe. Fiber gastroenteroscopy with TV system can also be observed through monitor, image quality is much worse than electronic mirror, mainly used in small and medium-sized hospitals.
