How to Use a Current Sensor?
Wed, May 25 by ATO.com
A current sensor is a device that detects electric current in a wire and generates a signal proportional to that current. The generated signal could be analog voltage or current or a digital output. The generated signal can be then used to display the measured current in an ammeter, or can be stored for further analysis in a data acquisition system, or can be used for the purpose of control. This article will explain how to use current sensor correctly.
- When the current sensor leaves the factory, it has been adjusted according to the sensor inspection standard. After the user's wiring is correct, it can be powered on and work. When used for precision measurement, the current sensor should be powered on and preheated for 3 minutes before sampling.
- The current sensor has no special requirements for the auxiliary power supply. It can use an ordinary switching power supply or a common three-terminal voltage stabilizer. Multiple sensors can share a set of power supplies. Pay attention to the auxiliary power information on the product label, and the auxiliary power level and polarity cannot be wrong, otherwise the current sensor will be damaged.
- The current sensor is an integrated structure and cannot be disassembled. Collisions and drops should be avoided.
- Pay attention to the shielding of the input line when current sensor is used in a strong magnetic field interference environment. The output signal line should be shielded and as short as possible. When centrally installed, the interval between adjacent sensors should be greater than 10mm.
- Only valid terminals defined by the current sensor can be used, other terminals may be connected with other circuits inside the sensor and cannot be used for other purposes.
- Some current sensors are not equipped with lightning protection function. When the sensor input and output feeders are exposed to outdoor harsh weather environments, lightning protection measures should be taken.
- Do not damage or modify product labeling. Do not disassemble or modify the current sensor, otherwise it will affect the after-sales service.
