How to Solve Garage Door Opener Failure?
Fri, Apr 01 by ATO.com
A garage door opener is a motorized device that opens and closes a garage door controlled by switches on the garage wall. It is common equipment in homes and factories. This article will introduce specific measures when garage door opener fails.
- The garage door opener cannot be operated neither from the door control panel nor from the remote control: Does the garage door opener have power? Insert a light into the socket. If the light does not come on, check the fuse box or circuit breaker. Are all doors unlocked? Re-read the installation instructions warnings. Is there ice or snow under the door? The door may have frozen to the ground. Clear obstacles. The garage door spring may have broken. Ask a professional to replace it.
- The garage door opener can be operated by the remote control but not by the door control panel: Does the button on door control panel light up? If it does not light up, remove the bell wire from the garage door opener terminal. Short the red and white terminals with one wire touching both terminals at the same time. If the garage door operator operates, check the door control panel for wiring errors, shorts under the staples, or broken wires. Are all wire connections good? Read the installation instructions again.
- The garage door opener can be operated by the door control panel but not by the remote control: Replace the battery if necessary (generally, the battery life of the remote control garage door opener is about 5 years). If you have two or more remotes and only one of them is working, repeat the routine detailed in the "Programming the Garage Door Opener and Remotes" section. Is the gate button flashing? The locking feature on the garage door opener is now activated. If you have a multifunction door control panel, press the lock button and hold it for 2 seconds. The gate button will stop flashing.
- Insufficient remote control range: Are batteries installed? Change the position of the remote control in the car. Metal garage doors, Insulating baffle with foil on back or metal baffles will reduce the transmission range.
- The door reverses motion for no apparent reason, and the garage door opener light doesn't flash: Is there something blocking the door? Pull the release handle. Operate the door by hand. If it is unbalanced or stuck, it should be repaired by specialist. Sweep ice or snow from the garage floor where the garage door is closed. Repeat the routine detailed in the "Setting Limits" and "Setting Forces" sections of the manual. After necessary adjustments, the safety reverse test should be repeated.
- The door reverses movement for no apparent reason and the garage door opener light flashes for 5 seconds after reverse movement: Check the guard system (infrared sensor, if installed). If the LED indicator is flashing, correct the alignment.
- In the living quarters, the noise of the garage door opener is disturbing: If the normal operation noise becomes a problem because the garage door opener is close to the living quarter, it is recommended to install a vibration isolator kit. The kit is designed to reduce the soundboard effect and is easy to install.
- Garage door opens and closes on its own: Make sure the button on the remote is not stuck in the "on" position.
- Door stops, but does not fully close: Repeat the routine detailed in the "Setting Limits" section. After making any adjustments to door arm length, closing force or down (closing) limit, the safety reverse test should be repeated.
- The door can be opened but not closed: Check the protection system (infrared sensor, if installed). If the LED indicator is flashing, correct the alignment. If the light of garage door opener does not flash and the device is new, repeat the routine detailed in the "Setting Limits" and "Setting Forces" sections of the instructions. Right: After making any necessary adjustments, the safety reverse test should be repeated.
- The light of garage door opener is not on: replace the light bulb (24V/21W).
- Garage door opener creaking: The door may be out of balance or the spring may be broken. Close the door and disconnect the rollers with the manual release cord and handle. Open and close the door by hand. A properly balanced door can stay at any point and is fully spring supported. If this is not the case, a professional should be called to correct the problem.
- The garage door opener motor hums temporarily, then doesn't work: The garage door spring may be broken. See above. If the problem occurs when the garage door opener first run, then the door is locked. Unlock the door. After making any necessary adjustments, the safety reverse test should be repeated.
