How to Choose Terminal Block?
A terminal block (also called as connection terminal or terminal connector) is a modular block with an insulated frame that secures two or more wires together. It consists of a clamping component and a conducting strip. Many people are relatively unfamiliar with the terminal, because although we can use and see it in normal times, we don't know what it is and what it does. Let's take a look at what the terminal blocks do and how to choose a terminal block.
The function of the terminal block
The terminal is a piece of metal sealed inside the insulating plastic, and there are holes at both ends to insert wires. It is mainly used for a large number of wire connections. If wires sometimes need to be connected or disconnected, at this point they can be connected with terminals, disconnected or connected at any time.
How to choose a connection terminal?
There are many manufacturers of terminal blocks now. When choosing a professional terminal block, in addition to considering its brand, price, etc., it is also necessary to consider:
In terms of appearance
At present, the production of terminals is mostly a sampling test, and a good terminal must have the proper process, that is, the surface is flat, no scratches, no burrs in the corners, and uniform wall thickness; more importantly, the matching of the plug and the needle seat High degree of insertion and extraction force will not appear too low or too high.
In terms of materials
Generally speaking, materials can be divided into two categories: the first is plastic parts, which must have good flame retardancy, that is, the flame retardant grade of UL94V-0; the simpler test method here is to ignite with an open flame. When the open flame is extinguished, it means that the terminal has good flame retardant performance.
Next is the crimping frame. Many users often say whether the terminal is copper, and this refers to the crimping frame. In general, copper frames are more angular in texture than iron ore.
Personal experiment
At present, the reason for the poor contact of some terminals on the market is that the screw torque does not meet the requirements, so the screw torque of the terminal is particularly important, so it is advisable to test it once.
Wiring area
The wiring area is also an important factor affecting the selection of terminals. For example, the area of the cable is 2.5 square meters, so should we actually choose 2.5 square meters, or should we choose a larger terminal? In fact, in many cases, we need to choose more than 2.5 ordinary wiring. The area of the terminal, because in the actual use process we need to use not only the direct wiring method, but also some accessories may be used to assist the wiring, such as cold-pressed terminals, SC terminals, etc., so the actual wiring The area will be larger than the area of the cable.
Voltage and current
The selection of voltage and current is similar to the selection of the size of the terminal area. Usually, there is no problem with voltage and current, but high voltage and high current will be generated at the moment when the circuit is disconnected and connected, so the voltage and current required in this case are far. Much higher than the voltage and current in the normal working environment, these factors also need to be taken into account in the actual selection.
The comprehensive selection of terminals needs to consider the actual use environment and foreseeable special circumstances.
