1-Phase vs. 3-Phase Isolation Transformer
Although three-phase isolation transformers and single-phase isolation transformers are different types of step-up & step-down isolation transformer products, they all have very similar functions and can be used for converting voltage and current, safe isolation and voltage regulation, and play a very important role in many professional fields. However, there are significant differences between them.
Input/Output Power Supply Type
The single-phase isolation transformer is a device that uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to step-up or step-down the AC voltage, among which the primary coil, secondary coil and magnetic core are its main components. At the same time, it is worth mentioning that single-phase isolation transformer is different from three-phase isolation transformer in terms of input and output power types. In the former, both input and output are single-phase AC power supply and only single-phase power supply is needed for single-phase electric load. The three-phase isolation transformer input and output are three-phase symmetrical alternating current, and it can provide two different types of power supply of three-phase power and single-phase power. Besides, three independent windings are used in the three-phase isolation transformer, which can use different connection methods to input and output three-phase AC power supply.
Application
Because of its simple structure and small size, single-phase isolation transformer is suitable for low-voltage distribution network with small load density. Different from the single-phase isolation transformer in structure, the three-phase isolation transformer is more complex, so it is now widely used in printing and packaging, petrochemical industry, schools, shopping malls, elevators, post and telecommunications communications and a variety of industrial automation equipment and other occasions requiring normal voltage guarantee. Moreover, the three-phase isolation transformer with high quality can relieve the disturbance of the common mode and other central lines of the power grid to effectively avoid the interference and noise caused by the high frequency pulse coupling inside the transformer, and well adapt to various complex application environments.
To sum up, the difference between three-phase isolation transformer and single-phase transformer is mainly embodied in the input and output power supply types and application fields. Three-phase isolation transformer and single-phase isolation transformer have their own characteristics and advantages. It’s worth mentioning that they all should be used in strict accordance with the reasonable operation method in order to make these transformers play a role in the actual application process.
