Tips: How to use rotary encoder outdoors or in harsh environments?

When using the equipment outdoors, the environment is dirty and the encoder may be crashed.
There is a kind of rotary encoder with aluminum sealed protective shell (can be made in stainless steel due to special requirements) and double heavy duty bearing, no need to worry about getting dirty outdoors. It can be used in steel factories as well as heavy equipment.
However, if there is space for the installation of the encoder. It is recommended to add a protective shell outside the encoder to enhance its protection. After all, the encoder is a precision device. There is a price difference between a coder and a protective shell.

Reading the signal of the encoder
What do you recommend for reading the signal of the encoder? I only need to measure the speed of the shaft.

    ATO Responded
The types of interfaces used to connect encoders to motors are:
    1. Command/response interface (RS-232/485): Read encoder speed via serial communication, and speed information is transmitted in ASCII code.
    2. Output pulse interface (A/B phase interface): Output pulse information via A/B phase signal, and calculate speed based on the number of pulses.
    3. Analog interface (voltage output interface): Output encoder speed information via analog voltage.
Customers need to select the read signal themselves.
    Good enceoder gor good price!
This is a very nice rotary encoder. I purchased this for weeks and no issue so far. Easy to integrate with my  equipment following the instructions with the help the service. I will buy another one if I need.
