Tips: What is the difference between Hall current sensor, current transformer and shunt?
The shunt is an exact resistor that can pass through a large current, and when the current flows through the shunt, a microvolt-level voltage appears at both ends of it, and the microvolt-level is used to measure the voltage, and then the voltage is converted into an electric current. The measurement of the high current is completed. The shunt is very simple, can only measure DC, do not need power supply, output signal is DC 0-75mV, it is simply a resistor.
Current transformer is the proportional transformation of high currents into standard small currents (5A or 1 A) using for standardization and miniaturization based on measuring instruments, protective equipment and automatic control equipment. At the same time, current transformers can also be used to separate high current systems to ensure the safety of people and equipment. Current transformer is based on the principle of mutual inductance that can only detect the current in 50Hz power frequency, do not need the power supply, the output signal is generally AC 1A, AC 5A.
Current sensor is based on Hall principle, which is divided into open-loop and closed-loop. It can measure AC, DC, high frequency, harmonic and other currents can be measured, it need to connect external power supply. The output signal can be 4-20mA, 0-20mA, 0-5V, and 0-10V and so on.

The working principle of AC/DC current sensor
I also need to know how the AC/DC current sensor works. Does it use a shunt or does it measure the electric field?

    ATO Responded
For AC/DC current sensor, it adopts linear photoelectric isolation or modulation and demodulation principle to measure the AC and DC current in the circuit "in real time", and it converts the measurement results to 0-20mA or 4-20mA analog signal.
    works well
I haven't used this unit yet but it seems to be well built and easy to use, Based on my using a slightly different switch. I am now using this device to sense when my mini-split heat pump turns on. It has a 0.5 A keep-alive current which I was hoping that this item wouldn't sense. It is working great.

Hall effect current sensors are AC/DC universal current sensors, with non-invasive structure, 5us fast response time, 1.0%FS accuracy, 0-5V output signal, ±15V power supply, measuring range can be 0-400A ~ 0-20000A or even higher current. Open loop current sensors are widely used for AC and DC high current detection, such as the high frequency switching power supply and solar power supply management system.
