Tips: 3 notices for installing an EMI power line filter
1. To make sure EMI line filter to work safely and reliably(dissipation and filtering effect), it must install EMI power line filter on the equipment frame and housing, and also need to guarantee GND of EMI line filter and GND of equipment housing conforming with each other, shortening the ground wire of EMI filter as possible as it could. If GND is not at the same place, when leakage current and noise current of EMI filter flow through the two GND places, then it will lead noise into other parts inside equipment. Besides, grounding wire of EMI line filter will lead in impedance, and it may lead to high frequency attenuation performance damage of EMI filter. Therefore, EMI line filter with metal housing should directly connect with machine housing. If housing is painted, it then must remove the painting layer. If EMI filter with metal housing which can’t connect with ground directly or use EMI power line filter with plastic housing, the grounding wire with equipment housing should be as short as possible.
2. EMI power line filter should be installed at equipment power line input end, and the connecting wire should be as short as possible. Power supply inside the equipment should be installed at EMI line filter output end. If the input wire of EMI filter inside the equipment is long, input wire at high frequency end would couple the led in conducting interference to other parts. If power inside the equipment is installed at EMI line filter input end, it may lead to the same result as the connecting wire is too long.
3. Make sure EMI power line filter input wire and output wire separate. If EMI line filter input, input wire tie up together or install too close between each other, then because of the coupling among them, it may lead to EMI line filter high frequency attenuation reducing. If input, output wire must approach, the twisted pair or shielded line should be used.
