ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) Selection for Waterproof BLDC Motor
- The speed of BLDC motor does not exceed the speed of ESC, it can be matched and used.
- Brushless DC motor speed calculation formula: battery voltage * motor KV value.
Brushless DC motor stator speed calculation formula: motor KV value * battery voltage * motor pole pairs.
- The limit speed of V4 series ESC is 60000 ERPM.
The limit speed of V6 series ESC is 15000 OERPM.
- If the maximum speed of BLDC motor exceeds the speed of electric speed controller, the ESC can also be matched by reducing the working voltage of motor. But we do not recommend this, because it does not really play the role of brushless DC motor.

Tips: When does brushless DC motor need to be waterproof?
Most BLDC motors are not waterproof, largely because their working environment does not need to be waterproof. While the waterproof material increases the cost, it also limits the overall performance of the motor. These costs are usually only valuable for specific applications, such as electric surfboards, diving propeller, and other applications where the motor may be in contact with liquids.
Due to water and solvents, motion control components often face the risk of corrosion and failure. Waterproof motor is the key to solving the problem of motor failure caused by water. The motor industry has a standardized liquid protection measure called IP protection level.
The waterproof brushless DC motor can work underwater. This is a general industry standard named after waterproof. This is not a modified standard motor, but a real waterproof motor, which can work well in deep water environments. The motor is equipped with redundant shaft seals, O-rings, sealed cable feedthrough lines, pressure equalization and other waterproof functions. These design features make the waterproof BLDC motor not malfunction even if it is exposed to water for a long time.
